The Air Force announced Monday it will pay $1 million to cover taxes on a group of Air Force members who paid $1.5 million in tax penalties last year.
The payment, to be paid to the Air Force Association, covers the payment made by a group that also paid the government $1,049,936 to settle a civil fraud lawsuit.
The Air Force’s Board of Management approved the payment in November.
In December, the board approved a $5 million tax payment to cover the costs of an investigation into the tax evasion.
The Board of Military Commissioners said in a statement Monday that it will use the money to reimburse the Air Reserve Officers Association, which has agreed to cover most of the Air National Guard’s tax payments.
